The Problem: In Canada, most people can’t name a single climate policy or even the main cause of climate change (burning fossil fuels). Canadians feel more proud of becoming a renewable energy superpower, yet they still feel that oil and gas is important for Canada’s future economy. Happily, most Canadians don’t want their taxpayer dollars to fund another pipeline ncluding the majority of Albertans. Clearly there is disconnect and conversations are needed. Our Solution: Host a Climate Policy Picnic, a gathering with your CCL group in a public place where you casually invite people around you to connect, learn, and take action together. Picture This: A golden summer evening on your street or in a local park. The sun hangs low, casting a warm glow as neighbours gather on lawns and sidewalks. Kids laugh, the scent of food fills the air, and for once, everyone slows down—just to be together. At Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) Canada, we know that all politics is local. The conversations we have during these long summer nights over shared meals, in parks, with friends and strangers alike are the ones that shape the future we all want. That’s why CCL Canada is inviting you to host a Climate Policy Picnic this summer. These aren’t just picnics—they’re opportunities to strengthen bonds, spark meaningful conversations, and show our leaders that Canadians are ready to act on climate together. It can be as simple as two or three of your group members having a picnic in the park with some CCL bling and outreach materials around you, and just see what happens! Regardless of whether you spark any climate conversations with passersby, you’ll have strengthened your group’s cohesion. This is an experiment this summer with the eye to making this something we do every summer and get better at every year, if that is the will of volunteers. Did you know? Most Canadians can’t name a climate policy or identify fossil fuels as the #1 cause of global warming (85%). Le saviez-vous ?
