Spread the word

🔨If you have time to spare, please consider sharing the campaign.

📣Pro Tips

  • Follow up if someone doesn’t respond.
  • Make it easy: Always include the direct link or QR code.
  • Personalize: Mention why the issue matters to them or your shared values.
  • Track responses: Keep a list of who you’ve asked and who has signed.

The best method is to ask directly and personally.

1. Direct Message (DM) on Social Media

Open Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Gander or Bluesky

Send a personalized message to each person:
“Hi [Name], I’m supporting this campaign to [briefly explain purpose, e.g., ‘hold politicians accountable for climate action’]. Would you sign it? It only takes 30 seconds:
https://canada.citizensclimatelobby.org/follow-the-money-digital-campaign/ .
Let me know if you do!”

2. Texting

Text individuals directly:
“Hey [Name], can you sign this letter to [purpose]?
https://canada.citizensclimatelobby.org/follow-the-money-digital-campaign/
Thanks!
Reply ‘YES’ if you signed, so I know.”

3. In Person

Ask friends/family in person to sign on your phone or theirs.

Have the link ready to share via text or QR code.

4. QR Code

Print or display a QR code linking to the campaign.

Hand out flyers with the QR code at meetings or events.

Add to the letter: excess profits tax

CCL Canada is part of a network of organizations calling for taxes on excess profits. If you feel moved to do so, cut and paste this into your letter:

As Big Oil continues to profit off the war, Canadians are paying the price.

Canada’s Big Four oil and gas companies just reported $13.3 billion in Q2 profits, up 144% compared to Q2 last year, and the sector is set to make $60 billion total in excess profits by the end of the year as oil prices continue to rise. Instead of just lining shareholders’ pockets, what if we used an excess profits tax to make life more affordable for Canadians?

An excess profits tax could raise $40 billion for public services within a single year. It’s a no-brainer. This money could fund:

  • Rebates on gas + inflation, lowering the cost of living
  • 5-10 years of free public transit across all of Canada
  • Clean energy infrastructure
  • Affordable, subsidized housing

Massive profits during global crises should not be used to boost corporate profits and shareholder payouts; they should be reinvested into the community.
