G7 at the Table

The 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit will be held in Kananaskis, Alberta, from June 15 to 17, 2025. Through our G7 At The Table initiative, volunteers will invite their newly elected MPs to share a meal and foster meaningful dialogue ahead of the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta (June 15–16), where climate, democracy, debt, human rights, and multilateralism will be key themes discussed at the table.

Why are we doing this?

Why are we doing this?

  1. To build relationships with our MPs around the issue of the climate crisis.
  2. To build political will for climate action at the G7.
  3. To educate ourselves, our MPs and our community about the G7.

The Goals

The Goals:

Using the placemat we’ve created to spark conversation as a prompt, we will be asking our parliamentarians questions related to each category:

  1. What are your priorities?
  2. What are your party’s priorities?
  3. How can we work together?

The aim is to  focus on climate only but thread human rights, democracy, debt and multilateralism. Our lobbying focus for the climate until further notice is:

 – Strengthen its approach by expanding and tightening both industrial carbon pricing and the cap on oil and gas emissions.
– Adopt Border Carbon Adjustments to stay competitive and manage trade-related climate risks.
– Implement Climate-Aligned Finance regulations to protect our financial system and ensure capital flows align with a safe and sustainable future.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to take pictures,  notes and get permissions and quotes from your MP  to share them because the overarching goal is to get local media attention. We hope for at least 5 MPs to take up the offer of a meal with climate on the menu. When all is said and done and right before the G7 Leaders meeting, we will send out a media release and accompanying social media posts.

The Invitation

Inviting your MP
As always, for any meeting you want with your MP, first call the office and request a meeting  and give the details and then email to the person you spoke with using the email they requested. Please develop your verbal script from the email invitation. Feel free to edit the invitation too.

Subject: You’re Invited: G7 at the Table – A Meal with Climate on the Menu

Dear [MP’s Name],

[Congratulate them on winning the election and compliment them for other recent achievements you might also want to include].

As Canada prepares to host the G7 Leaders’ Summit this June in Kananaskis, I would love to invite you to share a meal and meaningful conversation with me as your constituent.

This is a unique opportunity to discuss how Canada can lead on climate, democracy, debt, human rights, and multilateralism during its G7 presidency. Using a placemat we’ve prepared as a conversation guide, we’ll explore how we can work together toward a safer, fairer world—starting with stronger climate action. This initiative is outlined on our website and you can view it here: https://canada.citizensclimatelobby.org/g7-at-the-table/

We’ll keep it informal, and I’ll bring the food and materials. If you’re open to it, we’d love to share a photo and quote from you in our media outreach to highlight your leadership.

Please let me know when it is convenient.

Warmly,
[Your Name]
[Your Riding]
Citizens’ Climate Lobby volunteer
