What is a Phone Zap? Call-in campaigns, also known as “phone zaps,” are actions meant to pressure our government representatives into supporting a policy by using phone calls to demonstrate strong public support. You will be provided a script to follow. Since we will be calling after hours, the goal will be to leave as many messages on their answering machines as possible for them to receive first thing the following morning! What are we lobbying/zapping for? Bill C-372 is a private members bill tabled by the NDP’s natural resources critic, Charlie Angus. The bill would ban misleading fossil fuel advertising, similar to the way cigarette ads were restricted in the 1990s. The current wording of the bill would prohibit oil and gas companies from promoting their products or the production of fossil fuels in a way that would suggest they are less harmful or produce less emissions, or are beneficial to the health of Canadians, the environment, the economy, or reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
