Open Letter: Defend Democracy: Sign by Feb 15 to Stop Foreign Interference!

In the recently released Public Inquiry into Foreign interference, Commissioner Marie-Josée Hogue found that many foreign entities are now attempting to interfere in our democracy by engaging in disinformation on social networks, fostering distrust, creating division, and preventing compromise in a way that poses an even greater threat to democracy than ever previously imagined.

In light of this news, we are joining MP Charlie Angus in demanding:

  • An investigation into algorithmic manipulation by Musk and right-wing influencers.
  • Transparency during the next federal election, allowing observers to monitor interference.
  • Protection of Canada’s electoral integrity.

Follow-up Actions

  1. Join us Tuesday, March 4 for a call with Democracy Watch on the Foreign Interference report. We need to delay the election by urging opposition leaders to hold off on a non-confidence vote until the Hogue Inquiry’s recommendations are fulfilled. Parliament must act—we can help make that happen. REGISTER HERE
  2. Soon thereafter we will be launching  a digital campaign asking the Leaders of the federal parties and our MPs for the federal election to be delayed until key recommendations from the Hoque Inquiry are fulfilled and critical democracy-protection bills continue from where they left off and are passed.
  3. On Monday, March 24 – we will be on Parliament Hill demanding with many that our democracy be protected and that all poliitical parties must have vetted climate plans with the Baby Carriage Campaign: Pushing for Climate Action NOW
