OPEN LETTER: A climate concerned citizen’s letter to Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown

Mr. Patrick Brown, MPP

PC Leader of Official Opposition

Via email

Dear Patrick:

I was truly encouraged to hear your commitment at the recent Ontario PC Convention to support carbon pricing, and especially calling for revenue neutrality.

It was courageous of you to do so, especially as cries of “no” were heard as you proclaimed “Climate change is a fact. It is a threat. It is man-made. We have to do something about it, and that something includes putting a price on carbon.” I know you will continue to ignore the naysayers, so that we can move forward to a better future.

I would like think that our meetings with MPP Ted Arnott, MPP Lisa Thompson and MPP Norm Miller as Citizens’ Climate Lobby volunteers assisted in guiding you towards our revenue neutral Carbon Fee and Dividend model. We are all greatly encouraged by your proclamation regarding revenue neutral carbon pricing as the way forward and thank you very much in achieving this significant policy milestone.

My hope is you will continue to press the Ontario Government to adopt the revenue neutral pricing model and to back away from its costly Cap and Trade scheme, which does nothing to protect (especially) low income people. If CCL can be of any assistance in that regard, we would be more than pleased to meet with you, plus any other members of the PC party, up to and including the full caucus, to provide additional details as to how to achieve what we all want:  a robust economy, more sustainable full time jobs, a reduced tax burden and, above all, a clean, stable environment for all.

Please accept my congratulations on being a truly Progressive Conservative.

Yours sincerely,

Gord Cumming
