Sudbury, ON: Since September 2010, Citizens’ Climate Lobby Canada has been sending out actions sheets to our volunteers every single month. For almost nine years volunteers across Canada have been receiving one or two talking points assignments in our action sheets every month called “LASER Talks”. As part of our summer preparation for election 2019, as a collective, we compiled the best LASER Talks then edited and updated the best ones as well as added new talking points and put them into booklet.

Relationships are at the core of our work. Our LASER talks are intended to facilitate discussion on the climate crisis in our communities, in our media, and with politicians. They have also been created to respond to topics and questions which will often arise in conversations with co-workers, family, and friends. They are not intended to be presented as monologues.

To practice a LASER talk, consider internalizing the information then saying it in your own words with a partner over coffee, in a group, or in front of a mirror.

With CCL’s core values of focus, relationships, integrity, personal power, being nonpartisan, and diversity in mind, you are invited to use this booklet in your communications. We encourage everyone to use the information in this booklet to write letters to the editor or social media posts and offer this booklet to those that might value its information.

“The majority of Canadians know we are in a climate emergency and want action now. Elections Canada is signalling  that talking about climate change during the election could be deemed as a partisan activity.  A chill has been spread across environmental groups in Canada”, says Cathy Orlando, National Director of Citizens’ Climate Lobby Canada. “Literally thousands of volunteer hours by some of the best volunteers on the planet over the past nine years have gone into the creation of our talking points.  We encourage Canadians to spread our LASER talks far and wide.”

Our LASER  talks are organized under the following categories:

  • Carbon Pricing 101
  • Canada’s Challenges and Opportunities
  • International Climate Policy
  • Carbon Pricing In-depth
  • Climate Connections
  • The booklet also includes and short description Citizens’ Climate Lobby Canada and what our volunteers have been lobbying for at the federal level in 2019.
