Question: Where does CCL Canada stand on the Pact for a Green New Deal? Answer: On May 6, 2019, a coalition composed of unions, Indigenous groups, environmentalists and celebrities called on Canada to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 as part of a proposed “Pact for a Green New Deal.” We share their goal of transitioning away from fossil fuels while creating jobs and boosting the economy. With a divided Parliament, it’s crucial for a climate plan to be nonpartisan. Carbon pricing is also a core component of a cost effective climate plan. To be effective, CCL Canada will endorse initiatives in line with our core values and purpose. CCL has taken a similar stance on the Green New Deal in the USA. CCL Canada is grateful for the work that groups supporting the Pact for a Green New Deal have done to bring climate to the top of the priority list for Parliament.
