We are honoured to announce that our partners for this event are the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, Generation Squeeze, For Our Grandchildren, and Grand(m)others Act to Save the Planet. We are proud to stand alongside organizations that share our commitment to redirecting money away from fossil fuel pollution and towards a liveable planet for all.

We are thrilled to welcome back The Honourable Catherine McKenna as our keynote speaker. Catherine will share reflections and stories from her new book Run Like a Girl. Copies will be available for purchase at the conference. Her storytelling and insights will help us cut through the fog and see the path forward more clearly.

Senator Rosa Galvez will deliver her keynote on aligning Canada’s climate finance landscape and will explore how we can support our politicians in advancing this critical file.

Dr. Paul Kershaw (Generation Squeeze), Dr. Milli Roy (CAPE) and Dave Sawyer (the Canadian Climate Institute) are our carbon pricing panel. Beth Lorimer (KAIROS) will share ecumenical perspectives on the polycrises humanity is facing. Our friends at Ecojustice, Danielle Gallant and Reid Gomme, will update us on progress on the Mathur et al climate lawsuit with youth plaintiff Alex Neufeldt. We are also welcoming back Vince Schutt as our in-house Motivational Interviewing Consultant. More announcements are coming soon, so please keep checking back.

On Tuesday, October 21, from 7:30 to 9:00 am, we will co-host a light breakfast with our MPs. From 8:00 to 8:30 am there will be a demonstration of the EnROADS Climate Policy Simulator with Andrew Jones, Executive Director of Climate Interactive. Seating is limited to constituents and their parliamentary guests. If you bring a guest, you can lobby them before or after the EnROADS presentation or later in the day.

Instructions on how to secure a meeting with your MP and optional pre-conference calls are listed below.

Securing an Appointment with your MP

Steps to Prepare for Lobbying

  1. Phone and then email your MPs to let them know you plan to meet with them during the October lobbying days.
    – Phone first, identify yourself as a constituent, and follow up with an email.
    – Be prepared to contact them multiple times until you get a response.
    – Note you have to phone them and follow-up with an email. Emails alone do not work.
    – Give a deadline for them to respond in the email and then follow-up after the deadline.

  2. Draft a “Getting Ready to Lobby” document in Word to share before booking your appointment. Even a draft is fine—please get it started. (See Lobbying Resources for what that means)

  3. Register your appointment [ registration link].

Phone Script Outline

  1. Introduce yourself as a constituent in [insert name of your riding].

  2. Express authentic appreciation for something the MP has done recently.

  3. Introduce Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) Canada:
    – Non-partisan, volunteer-led, not-for-profit founded in Canada in 2010.
    – Chapters across Canada, representing over 120 ridings.

  4. Let them know that October 19–21, CCL volunteers from across the country will be meeting with Parliamentarians to hear their thoughts on shared goals for tackling the climate crisis.

  5. Mention you would like to schedule a meeting during these days.

  6. One option is to join us for breakfast at the Lord Elgin Hotel on Tuesday, October 21, 7:30–9:00 am in the St. Laurent Room at the Lord Elgin Hotel. From 8:00–8:30 am, there will be a live demonstration of the EnROADS Climate Policy Simulator with Andrew Jones, Executive Director of Climate Interactive, joining via Zoom.
  7. Inform the staff you will follow up by email to confirm the date, time, and meeting details including the lobbying asks. Ask for the best email address for the staffer.

  8. Thank them for their time.

We would greatly appreciate a meeting with you to hear your views and explore how we can work together. Specifically, we would like to discuss [insert your chosen CCL lobbying ask(s)]. If you could respond by [pick a date that makes sense]  that would help us immensely in our planning and I will follow-up soon after that date if I not heard from you.
