AJR43: California Legislators Support Carbon Fee and Dividend

In the summer of 2016, legislators in California, passed AJR 43, a joint resolution urging the federal government to enact a revenue neutral tax on carbon-based fossil fuels and return revenue from the tax back to middle- and low-income households. California is the sixth largest economy in the world and is the state that is currently has signed a carbon cap and trade with offsets with Quebec and Ontario. The REMI study commissioned by CCL USA predicts that, after 10 years, a revenue-neutral carbon tax would lead to a decrease in carbon dioxide emissions of 33 percent, an increase in national employment of 2.1 million jobs, and an average monthly dividend for a family of four of $288.
